We bought Marleny's Gesha 2 years ago and it was so well received that we shipped it to 5 continents.
Gesha is hyped right now. It monopolizes all the attention at auction where the lots produced by mostly White European landowners fetch hundreds of dollars per pound, and occasionally, thousands. This is a pure marketing ploy by people with means to extract as much value as possible from their land - a land that is often worked by Indigenous people.
The Gesha trees that produced this beautiful coffee were planted in 2021 and took 4 years to come to fruition, showcasing the commitment Marleny is showing to a beloved varietal in the specialty coffee world.
Small holder farmers like Marleny do not have access to those fancy markets, but her coffee is not less than: it's delicious, and she should be fairly compensated for her hard work.
After years of selling on the local markets for low prices, they organized to reach new markets and to get fairly compensated for their product.
THE MONKAABA PRODUCER GROUP Marleny and her husband Augusto Ortega (check out his deliciousSidra varietalcoffee we also offer!) are lifelong farmers and founding members of the Monkaaba group we often buy from.
It's a smallholder coffee grower empowerment initiative whose goal is to assist other growers in the area to not only find a better market for their coffee, one that pays a solid price, but also to invest in the knowledge and skill of producers in a way that ensures their future success while making them more autonomous.
We release many regular coffee from the group throughout the year and they are always delicious!
BREW CHART & IMPRESSIONS
OUR IMPRESSIONS
This exceptionally light and delicate coffee is smooth, crisp, and best enjoyed as a black filter brew.
It opens with a sweet, perfume-like aroma of hibiscus and fresh rosewater. In the cup, you will taste soothing chamomile and sweet candied berries. As it cools, the coffee reveals a bright, creamy sweetness reminiscent of lemon meringue and juicy pomelo. It finishes remarkably clean, leaving a pleasant and lingering aftertaste of premium white tea.
HOW PROCESSING IMPACTS FLAVOUR
The washed processing method is the secret behind this coffee's remarkably clean, delicate, and crisp profile. Because the fruit is depulped the exact same day it is harvested, the natural sugars do not over-ferment. This preserves the bright, distinct acidity of the bean.
A controlled 40-hour fermentation in traditional tile tanks develops the complex floral notes, bringing out the soothing chamomile and pink hibiscus aromas. Finally, drying the seeds slowly on raised beds for 18 to 20 days stabilizes the moisture content. This meticulous drying process locks in a refined sweetness, resulting in a balanced, premium cup with a smooth white tea finish.

REUSING YOUR TIN
♻ Designed as a collector's item or to be reused, your tin was made to stick aroundlong after the coffee is gone.
CARE INTRUCTIONS
♡ To keep it in good condition, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. When needed, wipe the inside and outside with a damp cloth rather than soaking it in water. We recommend avoiding full submersion and dishwasher use, as both can lead to rust over time.
Allow the tin to dry completely before reuse, paying special attention to the lid, rolled edges and sealing components where moisture can accumulate.
⚠ Do not remove, puncture or tamper with the one-way degassing valve located on the top of the tin. The valve helps release excess gas from freshly roasted coffee while limiting oxygen exposure.
○ Under the screw-top lid, you will find a silicone freshness seal. Please do not remove or modify it. Keep it clean and dry, and ensure it is properly seated after each use to help maintain freshness and prevent unwanted moisture from entering the tin.
⚠ For the best coffee quality, avoid storing the tin in the refrigerator or freezer. Temperature changes can create condensation inside the container, which may affect both the coffee and the tin over time.
