This is a special one to us. Not because of its taste, but because this is the very first Chinese coffee we ever had on our menu back in 2019. It was called Lafu then, and it truly helped us get some recognition for offering newer origin to Canadian specialty coffee drinkers.

Mr Li and his family have been growing and processing commercial grade coffee for over 20 years, typically selling to Nestle, Starbucks and Taiwan. His commitment to quality combined with higher than average elevation means it is producing some excellent washed lots. The family are very well respected in the local community, helping many villagers with education and healthcare, which is highly valued in this remote area.

The return of our first ever Yunnan coffee!
This coffee always unique, yet feels classic and approachable.

There are two things that, no matter what, shine in the cup: cherry and almond. These impressions have been present for us since 2019, and it's amazing and slightly nostalgic to rediscover this classic that we haven't had since 2022.

The coffee is very sweet, like sponge candy, and a subtle maple syrup taste.
The dark chocolate notes makes all of this feels round and delicious.

It's always quite challenging to get coffee from Yunnan, but this Rabbit Hole Staple is not going anywhere if we can help it!
We are grateful to IndoChina coffee to always organize everything ,even though we ahve to import those lots from a warehouse in the UK.

Price paid by us to IndoChina Coffee for the landed coffee at our roastery: 17.80CAD/kg

FOB price (prices paid to farmers + fees and transport from the farm to the port at origin): 13,15CAD/kg

Farmgate price: Based on our conversion from the local currency and on previous years, we'd estimate that the farmers received 9,70CAD/kg.
