This is the very first time that Albert's coffeewill reach the international market and we are delighted to be featuring it. Working with peripheral smallholder farmers through Semilla is how we change the coffee status quo.
Involved in the coffee production with his family for many years, it's in 2023 that he began his solo journey as a producer by buying some land from his father. As a third generation farmer, he is dedicated to produce quality coffee within his community in the hopes of inspiring other smallholders like him who don't have access to the specialty market.
Albert truly believes that by focusing on quality, famers from his small region could reach millions of happy consumers. On a more personal level, he hope that his farm, La Fortuna, can gain international recognition so he can create jobs for his community. He plans to invest his income into expanding his farm, establishing his own processing plant, and cultivating better coffee varieties; he finds motivation in his journey.
By buying this coffee, you are contributing to helping him achieve the recognition he deserves.
BREW CHART & IMPRESSIONS
OUR IMPRESSIONS
Milk chocolate and the creamy, buttery character of Brazil nuts set the tone from the first sip. Then dried fig notes start to come through, adding depth and sweetness without making the cup feel heavy.
It immediately reminded V. of ma’amoul cookies - those delicate shortbread pastries filled with dates or figs. There’s that same gentle pastry warmth here: lightly nutty and aromatic. From there, as pointed by David, a golden fruit note starts to show up, something close to mirabelle plum, bringing a soft brightness that keeps everything balanced and lively without ever turning sharp.
Overall, this is a classic, easy-to-love coffee that still has layers if you pay attention. It’s especially beautiful as a pour-over, where the sweetness really opens up as the cup cools. As espresso, it works great with just a touch of milk - think macchiato or cortado which highlights the chocolate and nutty notes while keeping the cup delicate and balanced.
HOW PROCESSING IMPACTS FLAVOUR
Cherries are harvested daily, floated to remove defects, and depulped. The coffee is then placed in tanks to ferment for 24 hours before being moved to raised drying beds in a solar dryer for 18 to 20 days.

TRANSPARENCE
Farmer: Albert Audon Vasquez Importer: Semilla Price we paid Semilla: 20.15CAD/kg FOB price: 14.90CAD/kg Farmgate price: 20700 Lempira/carga (200kg) of parchment Regional farmgate price (2025): 12000 Lempira/carga of parchment Semilla paid more than 70% above market price
Many growers in Honduras (and frankly, everywhere) report that prices paid through conventional models are simply too low to generate profit. At best, they cover picking and input costs, and often they don’t even meet that threshold. This is why we value our partnership with Semilla: they pay peripheral smallholders well above market price and give them a chance to access the international specialty market market.
When you support small roasters like us who support small importers like Semilla, you help us all challenge the coffee status quo keeping the farmers in poverty.
Yes, we still need to find ways to compensate farmers even more for their work, and the more coffee we sell, the more we can implement a vision thatcenters farmers🙂
