We are thrilled to bring this important coffee, our first from Guatemala, to our coffee menu. This coffee from producer Luis Roldan is not just a delicious coffee, it is much more than that.

Luis, an agricultural engineer by trade, is a new member of the Semilla network. This is the first time he exports a specialty lot internationally and we are very happy we could buy all of it!

Luis is an active and well respected leader of the Cafe Colis Resistencia, a producing group from the Indigenous Xinka community around Mataquescuintla, Guatemala.
They are interested in developing an international market for their coffee, and
therefore finally receiving fair prices for their work.

The group is opposing the exploitation of the Escobal silver mine, owned by Vancouver-based Tahoe Resources. Tahoe wants to go ahead despite being in contravention of the United Nations Declarations of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

We are proud to join Semilla in their efforts to stand on the side of Indigenous sovereignty and landing our support for this producing group. Not only does Semilla buy the coffees at solid prices, they also lend their voices as Canadians against this illegal extractive project.

Many more details on this very important project to come in the next few weeks.

This is a beautiful coffee that hits a lot of smooth and classic notes. The apricot and green apple vibes go hand in hand with the rounder and sweeter side of this coffee from the nougat & vanilla.

As it cools, you can notice very interesting malt and raisin undertones.

The nutty and slightly chocolaty tone is more present in the espresso.
