Our commitment to farmer Ali Zaid continues as for the second year as we bring you 100% of his production. Last harvest was a low yield year across the region, and Ali only produced 30kg of coffee. This year, we have 51kg of it.
It's easier for farmer to keep all of their production for exports if they know they have a committed partner in Qima, and a committed buyer in Rabbit Hole. When the uncertainty of finding a good price and a committed group of buyers is gone, famers like Ali can focus on their crop and farm management so they can produce more, and better coffee.
It has all that we love in a classic Yemeni coffee: character, body, ripe berries and an approachable complexity.
With his family's help on the farm, they produce an incredibly clean and sweet profile.
We have committed to buy his full production for the foreseeable future.
This is only the first of 4 Yemenis drops of the most recent harvest, so stay tuned for a lot of amazing coffees from our favourite origin, including lots from the Best of Yemen Auction!
We love coffees that feel complex, yet also instantly feel like a classic! We can drink this Yemeni lot all day, every day. Approachable complexity is what makes our favourite coffee origin so unique.
It offers so much depth that each cup feels different if you feel like exploring. It can also be brewed in so many different ways.
The coffee is bright but balanced, and the acidity reminds us of tangerine. It also felt (at least for David ;-) ) that the coffee was full of a very specific berry: white mulberry, which is incredibly sweet.
The finish is dessert like, thanks to the nougat and vanilla aftertaste.
We also had hints of tropical fruits, pistachio and roasted almonds. You can definitely have fun while drinking this coffee!
